Apple’s much-awaited “Spring Loaded” event on Tuesday launched the highly-anticipated AirTag alongside other new devices such as the iPad Pro and M1 iMac.
Similar to all of Apple’s events in 2020, Spring Loaded was a pre-recorded event at Apple Park, a move that has become the norm to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. People were able to watch the event on their Apple TV, via YouTube or Apple.com.
AirTag
After a year of rumors, the AirTag has finally come, offering users the ability to track (otherwise lost) items directly from within iPhone’s Find My app.
These circle-shaped tracking devices can be attached to commonly misplaced items such as car keys, wallets, bags, bikes and more.
It uses Apple’s U1 chip, has an internal accelerometer, has IP67 water and dust resistance and it even has a built-in speaker for easier detection. The top part is plastic and can be personalized with free engraving, while the back is laser-etched polished stainless steel.
The AirTag is available starting on Friday April 30, and can be bought in one and four packs for just $29 and $99, respectively.
Aside from the AirTag, other things were announced for the Spring Loaded event.
Apple TV 4K
The sixth-generation Apple TV was also released at the event, having gotten some significant improvements over the previous versions. It is specially fitted with an A12 Bionic CPU, which Apple claims to be as powerful as an Xbox one.
Also new to the 2021 Apple TV 4K is its color balance feature that allows a user to hold their iPhone to the screen to calibrate the screen’s colors properly.
The new Apple TV has a price tag of $179 for the base model having 32G storage and $199 for 64G storage.
They have also unveiled an all-new Siri Remote. The redesigned aluminum remote features a clickpad with 5-way navigation for better accuracy. To mimic the iPhone, the Siri button has been moved to the side.
M1 iMac
Apple really went all out with the latest reveal of the M1 iMac which features the best camera, mics and speakers ever in a Mac, and Touch ID for the first time.
The all-new iMac features a stunning design in a range of beautifully radiant colors, the breakthrough M1 chip and a brilliant 4.5 retina display.
The new iMac consists of a 1080p FaceTime HD camera, a six-speaker sound system and studio-quality microphones – the best camera and audio ever in a Mac. The Touch ID is also present in the iMac for the first time, making it easier to log in safely, settle purchases with Apple Pay or simply switch user profiles with just a touch of a finger.
Customers can order the M1 iMac on Friday April 30 and it will be available in the second half of May.
M1 iPad Pro
Hopping aboard the M1 bandwagon is Apple’s latest take on the iPad Pro. The new iPad Pro now has the revolutionary M1 chip similar to those put in Apple Silicon units, thereby making it the fastest machine ever. Apple claims that the iPad Pro is 1,500x faster than the original iPad.
The 12.9-inch iPad Pro sports a new Liquid Retina XDR display that offers extreme dynamic range, offering a stunning visual experience with more real-life details to the most demanding HDR workflows.
The new iPad Pro is available to order starting Friday April 30 and will be delivered in the second half of May.
iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini in Stunning Purple
