iPhone 12 Pro Cracked Rear Glass Can Now be Repaired without Replacing Entire Phone

Last month, Apple has reportedly managed to figure out a way for its own repair team and its Authorized Service Providers to fix the rear glass of an iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini without having to replace the entire unit.

According to MacRumors, that capability has now extended to the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max units as well.

Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers now have access to a new “iPhone Rear System” part – basically an iPhone enclosure that includes all components except the display and rear camera. This part is now available for all four iPhone 12 models.

If a customer turns in an iPhone 12 with cracker rear glass, an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider can now replace the whole rear portion of the unit thanks to the iPhone Rear System part, whilst retaining the customer’s original display and rear camera. Therefore, the iPhone’s display and rear camera must have no damages or issues in order for the unit to be eligible for a same-unit repair.

iPhone 12 units may be eligible for a same-unit repair if they are unable to be powered on, are experiencing problems with the logic board, Face ID system, or the enclosure of the device such as cracked rear glass.

Apple’s memo reiterated that this move supports the company’s ongoing commitment to reduce the carbon footprint of every product it sells.
