“The Rings of Power” series premiered on Prime Video on September 1
It appears that Elon Musk isn’t a fan of Amazon Studio’s new TV series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power”, and he made it very clear on his latest tweets.
The 51-year-old Tesla billionaire said on Monday, September 5, “Tolkien is turning in his grave.”
He then followed up with, “Almost every male character so far is a coward, a jerk or both. Only Galadriel is brave, smart and nice.”
Amazon has invested $1 billion in this series inspired by the world of J.R.R. Tolkien. This would make it the most expensive TV series ever made. Former executives say Amazon shall use the show as a measuring stick to see if Amazon Studios is a worthwhile venture for the company.
Early indicators bode well for the TV series and Amazon Studios – the show premiered on Friday, and around 25 million viewers tuned in to the first two episodes. Critics gave the show generally positive reviews, setting up Amazon for success.
“The Rings of Power” takes place 3,000 years ago, before Peter Jackson’s “The Lord of the Rings” films. Clearly, it is not a continuation of the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movie trilogies.
The series is primarily based on the appendices of The Lord of the Rings, which include discussion of the Second Age, and Tolkien’s grandson Simon consulted on the development of the series.
According to Variety, Amazon’s founder Jeff Bezos was personally involved in bringing the show to Amazon.
