Now 300,000 apps in Apple App Store

Apple is still leading the App Store race, now having reached another milestone: 300,000 apps. Google’s Android Market recently reached 100,000 apps so they’re still a bit behind.

Out of the 300,000 “apps” in the App Store, around 50,000 are books, another 50,000 are games. The rest are spread across entertainment, education, lifestyle, utilities, travel, music, reference, sports, business, news, health & fitness, productivity, navigation, social networking, photography, finance, medical and weather.

According to Mobclix, almost 207,000 of the apps are paid apps while around 94,000 are free apps.

As for downloads, App Store had 3 billion downloads as of January 2010 while Android Market had 1 billion downloads as of July 2010.

  1. I’m sorry but a book should not be classed as an app since it serves a very very singular function and that is to let you read that book.

  6. This fight will be interesting to watch between iOS and Android.

Going to be tough got iOS since we are talking ONE phone versus what’s going to end up being 100+ phones.

  7. Hi there,
as for me, basically it doesn’t matter if is Apple or Google’s Android, smartphones are about the apps. Smartphone holders are tied to the apps and with the direct access to the wide range of absolutely fantastic apps, developers can greatly benefit on that.
