This is almost breaking news, because when Apple announced the iPhone, Steve Ballmer laughed at it.
Now, a different choice of words are coming out of Steve Ballmer’s mouth, about the iPhone, when he said at a speech at the University of Washington: “Apple’s done a very nice job that allows people to monetize and commercialize their intellectual property”.
A comment like that brings water to the rumor mill, that Apple could replace Google with Bing as the default search engine in the next iPhone OS.
The Seattle Times asked Steve Ballmer after the speech if there’s an “enemy of my enemy is my friend”-thing going on with Microsoft and Apple (against Google), to which Ballmer just smiled and climbed into his car…
Oh, this is going to be exciting. I’ve always liked Google but recently I’m becoming a bit more “paranoid” over just how much Google actually knows about us and the way we use the Internet (unless we on purpose try to avoid anything Google).
Microsoft is definitely not on my Christmas Card list as I’m so fed up with all the issues Windows always had (I have no beef with Windows 7 though) and Windows Mobile 6, not to mention how cumbersome most things related to Microsoft is (Hotmail, Live ID, Office etc.). I’m going to stop whining now, but my point is, Apple is ma’ thing (mostly) and seeing them go into a relationship with Microsoft to somehow “compete” against Google, surprisingly doesn’t bother me at all.
