Steve Ballmer Compliments Apple On The iPhone !!!

This is almost breaking news, because when Apple announced the iPhone, Steve Ballmer laughed at it.

Now, a different choice of words are coming out of Steve Ballmer’s mouth, about the iPhone, when he said at a speech at the University of Washington: “Apple’s done a very nice job that allows people to monetize and commercialize their intellectual property”.

A comment like that brings water to the rumor mill, that Apple could replace Google with Bing as the default search engine in the next iPhone OS.

The Seattle Times asked Steve Ballmer after the speech if there’s an “enemy of my enemy is my friend”-thing going on with Microsoft and Apple (against Google), to which Ballmer just smiled and climbed into his car…

Oh, this is going to be exciting. I’ve always liked Google but recently I’m becoming a bit more “paranoid” over just how much Google actually knows about us and the way we use the Internet (unless we on purpose try to avoid anything Google).

Microsoft is definitely not on my Christmas Card list as I’m so fed up with all the issues Windows always had (I have no beef with Windows 7 though) and Windows Mobile 6, not to mention how cumbersome most things related to Microsoft is (Hotmail, Live ID, Office etc.). I’m going to stop whining now, but my point is, Apple is ma’ thing (mostly) and seeing them go into a relationship with Microsoft to somehow “compete” against Google, surprisingly doesn’t bother me at all.

  2. I think they’re gearing up to be the default search engine on the iPhone otherwise why would he make that comment when Windows 7 phones are slowly making their way out?

    • You might be right. If it does happen, I wonder what the whole “geek community” will say, when Bing becomes the default search engine on their iPhone. Even more important, I wondre if Apple will allow for another search engine to be specified or if people will have to browse to manually to search, or use a Google app.

  3. Funny when Steve said it would never work, called the $500 phone a fad.

Nice to see Microsoft eating its words :).

    • Some how I think that they don’t care much about eating their own words on this one. They just get even more PR out of it – like with this post 🙂 But hey, it’s news worth commenting on, so I don’t mind.

  4. I read somewhere that a kid got a new macbook and got it to Steve Ballmer to get an autograph on the notebook. And guess what, he signed the macbook with a heart warming smile on his face! True gentleman you are, Mr. Ballmer.
