9 Best Android Apps for Writers

If you’re like a lot of writers these days, you may have an Android phone. If so, which apps can help you be more productive? Here’s a list of the top 9 apps that will do just that.

1. Fbabble (Free)

This nifty little app helps you stay connected with your friends on Facebook. It provides real-time chat, photo uploading, and status updates. Fbabble even lets you send automatic tweets from your Twitter account.

2. Astrid Task/To-Do List (Free)

Astrid, an open source to-do list app, is simple enough to not get in your way, yet powerful enough to actually help you stay organized! This app reminds you of all the important and not-so-important things you need to do throughout the day. It can also synchronize with the popular Remember-the-Milk program.

3. Quickpedia (Free)

This app is the equivalent of Wikipedia in Android format. Quickpedia allows you to do almost everything you already do on Wikipedia, including searching, browsing, and viewing featured pages and events. It even helps you locate Wikipedia articles that are near your current GPS position!

4. Thesaurus (Free)

As its name implies, Thesaurus helps you find a synonym for virtually every word there is. Besides synonyms, it also provides antonyms, similar words, related terms, and even user suggestions. If you wish to dig further, just tap a word to search for that item. Thesaurus also keeps a handy history of terms you’ve searched for.

5. Voice Recorder (Free)

Voice Recorder is a great little app that records audio files and saves them on your SD card. Its features include the ability to send recordings as attachments in Gmail, a timer, background recording, searching by title and date, and even the ability to set a recording as your ring tone. This app is definitely worth downloading.

6. Urban Dictionary (Free)

This is an excellent resource for those of us who need a little help keeping up with current lingo. Urban Dictionary provides definitions for all the terms you might hear from teens and college students but can’t find in a regular dictionary.

7. Best Wisdom Quotes – Lite (Free)

There’s nothing that spices up your article or blog post like a great quote. This app contains 3000 quotes from some of best thinkers and leaders in history, including Abraham Lincoln, Aristotle, Gandhi, Einstein, and more. It also comes with some excellent graphics.

8. Random Facts (Free)

Are you experiencing writer’s block? Maybe a random fact will spark your creativity. This app is packed with just the kind of facts you need. Example: “In the United States, a pound of potato chips costs two hundred times more than a pound of potatoes.” Now you can write about starting a potato chip business!

9. Shakespeare (Free)

William Shakespeare, undoubtedly one of the greatest English writers, had much to say about love, truth, courage, friendship, happiness, trust, humility, wisdom, success, inspiration, motivation, and education. A real gem, this app supplies his best quotes on all of those subjects and more.

As you can see, the ways that Android apps can help you as a writer are virtually unlimited. Why not check out some of these for yourself?

  1. Fbabble developers should have included a check box that allows users to only post to Facebook or Twitter, rather than always to both. Perhaps just three buttons under the message updater that says Facebook, Twitter, Both

  3. I’m a new Droid user, so I’m glad to get this great list! I’m also using Evernote on my Droid, hoping to put more and more into it instead of forgetting things or taking paper notes.

  12. May as well shamelessly mention my Nonsense apps, they generate sentences and phrases randomly for comic effect and to inspire creative people, particularly writers.
