Apple to end up like Sony?

Apple CEO, Tim Cook

Without Steve Jobs, Apple will not be able to continue to produce “magical” products. At least that’s what George Colony from Forrester (analytics company) writes on his blog.

Even though Apple continues to beat their own records every time they release new financial statements, George Colony thinks that Apple will eventually end up like Sony – a giant that makes mediocre products, and may not even able to produce a profit each quarter.

He describes Apple as a company that was driven by Steve Jobs and his visions, charisma and willingness to take a risk. Without him, Apple will coast and then decelerate.

So when will it begin to go south?

In two to four years, he believes. Tim Cook might be a good man to keep the engines running, but he lacks charisma and visions to steer Apple in a forward direction – says George.

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens in 2-4 years. Until then, I’m sooo enjoying my Mac, iPhone and iPad – every day 🙂

  1. All companies have their ups and downs. I’m sure Microsoft was written off when Bill Gates left, but they have managed to still do well all these years. Its unfortunate to blame Tim whose filling the shoes of a genius, if the company does not do well, unless of course Tim does a Leo Apotheker.

  2. I also heard about the future of Apple. Some analysts wrote that Companies like Walt Disney or Sony are “charismatic” companies, it’s due to their leaders. And without them they are likely to fall. Let’s see what is gonna happen to Apple.

  3. I read that it’s a great year for Apple nonetheless. Both the new iPad and the iPhone 4S enjoyed great success, so everything’s goes their way right now.

  4. The loss of Steve Jobs was definitely a huge blow in Apple’s headquarters but a serious company like Apple will surely manage to stay on top. As Marty said, the products that were released after Steve’s death are very successful

  5. Charisma will help for the business but they can not avoid the down time
that can happen in every business.

  6. It is true that Steve Jobs’ place is irreplaceable but It is false to underestimate Apple as a whole. I believe Apple will survive long without Jobs not only with its innovation or successors, but with the rich legacy by the Genius himself! Miss u Steve!

  7. I would like to give apple’s new ceo a chance. Think about it for a second. Would you like it if you were in the same situation? A shadow of another guy? I believe he has potential as any person has. Let time do its thing.. We will know for sure.

    • Exactly what i think. As i said on my previous post, it was a huge blow but i am sure this guy is not a random one. He has to be very smart and innovative or else he wouldn’t reach such a high place in technology world. Apple is on top now and he is leading it..

  8. Steve Jobs is a genius one of the greatest visionaries of all time and as long as Apple continue to make creative/innovative and not mediocre products, they should be fine. But then again, businesses will have their ups and downs and we’ll just have to find out, won’t we?

  9. Well, There is no doubt that Apple achieved this position because of “Steve Jobs” but you can’t say that after him Apple won’t be able to compete with their competitors.

Steve is gone so new generation has to take responsibility, let’s see how well they can handle the pressure.

  11. I doubt about that though. Apple will be like prized possession ever and ever. Now Samsung Mobile is a great competitor to apple though. With S3, samsung sits at the top now.Lets see about iphone 5 🙂

  12. Steve Jobs is a genius and a man of vision, and of-course there is no match for him… A guy who made a revolution in the field of computer and introduced the concept of ‘computers for common man’. Lets see how Tim could handle Apple…

  13. As long as Apple keeps marketing in the effective way that they have been, they should be able to retain their current customers. I mean, while we all say that some of the products Apple makes are revolutionary, the fact is a lot of times Apple is just playing catch up (like when they called taking video on the old iPhone “amazing”).

  14. I agree that someone has to fill the visionary role at Apple. What has happened in the past is that the the most powerful person in the room gets to veto all ideas, not engineers. Surely someone at SONY must have come up with a digital walkman idea. The question is “Who nixed it?”

  15. Yeah, it won’t be the same without Steve.

When I first read over the article I thought the analyst was called George Clooney, trick of the eyes I guess. Ha ha.

  16. I’m with you. The loss of Steve Jobs is something to be concerned about. On one hand, the ‘magic aura’ at Apple is gone. That’s to be expected since Steve is one of the most charismatic and iconic CEO in history.

But lately (it’s now 2013), nothing really exciting has came out of Cupertino. In a month time it’s WWDC and Apple is set to unveil iOS 7. I’m curious about that.
