Worst 8 Causes of Increased Eye Strain Due To Surfing on Your Smartphone

A few years ago, it was quite a normal situation that moms used to yell, “Don’t sit close to the television, it can ruin your eye sight!” There is no doubt about its truth. However, you will hardly see anyone sitting so close to the TV anymore because things have changed a lot. Technology is advancing rapidly. This gives us more clues for how much of it is actually harmful. For instance, research reveals that excessive use of smartphones can be the major reason of getting increased eye strain.

Smartphones are the most prominent gadgets for everyone living in today’s technological era. This may be hard to believe, but it is true that they can prove to be harmful for your eyes. This is simply because of the fact that the usage of smartphones has increased rapidly. Since everything from emails to web browsing to social networking is just a smartphone away, there is no need to stare at your computer screens. Along with convenience, smartphone usage can bring eye problems such as eye strains.

Have a look at the following causes of getting increased eye strain due to using smartphones:

1.     Less Movements of Eye Muscles

Obviously, the size of your smartphone’s screen is a lot smaller than that of your laptop, iPad, or personal computer. Therefore, there is no way out for your eyes to look elsewhere instead of this small screen. This restricts your eye muscles to move freely and your eyes have to stick to only a small-sized screen. Due to this, your eye muscles tend to move less and cause eye strain.

2.     Smaller Font Sizes

Many people make excessive use of their smartphones to text to a large circle of friends. Though it is a good way to keep in touch with them, it is important to know what those small font sizes can do to your eyes. Notice that the font size of a smartphone is a lot smaller than the font size you type on your computer screen. For this reason, you need to make your eyes work harder on reading small fonts on your smartphone’s screen.

3.     Continuously Staring at the Screen

With your smartphone, you can use various apps in a single day without getting bored. However, did you ever notice what it demands from you? You need to stare continuously at the screen of your smartphone, which is extremely dangerous for your eyes. Healthy eyes require eye exercises and blinking. This is simply not possible if you stare at the screen continuously.

4.     Lack of Awareness

Many people have no idea how important it is to keep a distance, even with their smartphones. If you look at the screen of your smartphone closely too often, then there is strong possibility that you can have an eye strain.

5.     Continuous Use of Smartphones

If using your smartphone is one of your favorite hobbies, then you should look for something more healthy and interesting. This is because using your smartphone continuously results in eye fatigue as your eyes need to concentrate a lot on that small screen. People who do not care about giving their eyes a break, tend to get increased eye strains.

6.     Lack of Blinking

When you use your smartphone, you do not tend to blink a lot. However, eye specialists recommend that blinking often is a good exercise for the eyes. 1 day acuevue moist contact lenses are great value.

The problem with smartphones is that they do not let this happen a lot. Lack of blinking often leads to eye strain.

7.     Playing Games on Smartphones

There is no doubt that smartphone games are so addictive. Gaming can be an ideal activity to keep yourself busy in your spare time. However, it is unhealthy too because playing games on smartphones requires your eyes to focus more on the screen, resulting in eye strain.

8.     Watching Movies Requires Focusing for Hours

Watching movies on your smartphone is a lot of work for your eyes. People mostly do this on the go. However, they are unaware that it can ruin their eyes in the form of increased eye strain.

Though using smartphones has made our lives easy, it simply does not mean that these gadgets should be overused. There are many ways through which you can control your eye health. By avoiding the above-mentioned ways of using your smartphone and focusing on eye exercises, you can definitely manage to keep your eyes away from increased eye strain. Secondly, 1 day acuevue moist contact lenses are great value too.

  6. Normal use of a smartphone is alright as and when needed. Problem arises when people keep playing games continuously on their mobile phones. Moreover, there are people who are addicted to chatting or sending / forwarding SMS’es throughout the day. Naturally, it will impact their eyes.
