Samsung Galaxy S4 versus LG G2 – battle of the flagships

samsung_galaxy_s4One is a hugely popular handset that’s made a massive Korean tech firm even bigger; the other is hoping to be just as successful.

We’re talking, of course, about Samsung’s 2013 flagship Galaxy S4 and the soon-to-be-released G2 from Samsung’s Korean counterpart LG. The G2 was only recently unveiled to the world but looks like being a worthy successor to last year’s Optimus G. Still, it’s got a long way to go to beat the mammoth handset that is the Galaxy S4.

With the mobile market set to heat up as Christmas draws ever closer, how do these two Korean flagships measure up?

Specs

When it comes to power under the bonnet, the Galaxy S4 is hard to beat. The quad-core 1.6 GHz CPU is lightning fast, while the 2GB of RAM makes for a smooth user experience. There was a time when these specs couldn’t be beaten but rivals are catching up – and that includes the G2.

LG has taken its credentials to the next level with the G2, packing a quad-core processor clocked at a very impressive 2.26GHz and coupled with 2GB of RAM. Specs aren’t everything of course, but these are hard to ignore.

Features

A big selling point for modern day handsets is the display quality – especially as screens seem to be getting bigger with every passing release. The G2’s is slightly larger at 5.2-inches, compared to 5-inches on the S4, and is just as impressive with a Full HD display.

There’s also not much between the two when it comes to the camera: both are rocking a 13MP snapper packed with innovative features although the S4’s camera mode and feature selection probably have the edge, just.

So far and it’s pretty close for the two flagships. However, a couple of sloppy omissions in the G2 – namely no Android Jelly Bean OS and no MicroSD card slot – will frustrate users.

Which one should you buy?

For some tech fans, the G2 will have the edge simply because it’s newer. The one upside to this is that the [tp lang=”en” only=”y”]Galaxy S4 on contract[/tp][tp not_in=”en”]Galaxy S4 on contract[/tp] is reasonably priced, giving you plenty of bang for your buck when it comes to getting your hands on a high-performance phone with a competitive contract.
