As social networking sites have become an integral part of our lives, the idea of social gifting service has also evolved. Seeing a viable business opportunity, many companies have started their own social gifting service, but, till date, only a few stands out. Wrapp is undoubtedly one of those.
What is Wrapp?
Wrap lets you send paid or free gift cards to your family members or friends (As long as they are your Facebook friends) and you can do it using your smartphone or computer. Wrapp has numerous renowned partners to its credit such as: Clas Ohlson, SATS, Happy Socks, Kiva, Gant, Operation Smile, Synoptik, Karen Millen, Oasis, Mathem, Warehouse, Lipsy, Stadium, SpaFinder Wellness, Dramaten, Strada, Travellink hotels, H&M, Levi’s, PizzaExpress, Sephora, mydeco, Gap, Marc O’Polo, Boozt, Bella Italia, Reebok, Outnorth, O’Neill, Firebox, America Today, Brooklyn Industries, Lorna Jane, Roses Only etc. Isn’t that a long list? If you wonder why merchants offer free gifts, they do so to advertise their products. Free gifts for them are an amazing idea instead of using all those pricey advertisements. Additionally, Wrapp lists paid gifts as well, so, if a user decides to send someone a paid gift, that’s direct money for the merchants.
A bit on history
In first half of 2011, Wrapp was founded by a team of experienced entrepreneurs (They were behind groundbreaking companies such as SoundCloud, Groupon, Spotify etc.) in Stockholm, Sweden. The board of directors of Wrapp includes Skype co-founder Niklas Zennstrom, former global CEO of H&M Fabian Mansson and LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman.
Getting Started
You can visit the official webpage of Wrapp (www.wrapp.com) and join via your Facebook account. Otherwise, you can download the Wrapp app from Google Play or App Store depending on your smartphone. Your wrap account connects to your Facebook account directly and hence, you don’t need to enter your account ID and password all the time you want to send a gift.
Sending Gifts
You can check whether free gifts are available from merchants or not. If you want to stick to free gifts, you can check the next day. You can also check out other free stuff providing sites such as

Free Stuff Love. If you are not bothered, just move over to the paid gifts. You can pay for the gift through your debit card, credit card or PayPal account (All transactions are securely done, according to Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards). If you cannot purchase the gift all by yourself, you can even pay partially and ask other friends to contribute. It is important to contribute within 7 days of delivering the gift though. Also, some merchants set a maximum amount that can be contributed, if the total contribution reaches that, you will not be able to add any further money to that gift.
If you wish, you can cancel a gift sent to a friend as well. You will get a refund for that too. But, this is only possible when the person to whom you sent the gift has not used the same. Remember, the person who receives the gift needs to have a Wrapp account as well to use the gift.
How to use the Wrapp Gift?
After logging in with Wrapp, you need to go to the Wallet section and select the gift card that you want to redeem. Now you can either use the gift card for shopping in a store (Use in Store) or while making online purchase (Use Online). In case of former, you need to show the barcode (Available after you press “Use in Store” button) to the cashier. In case of online purchases, you can buy an item from your Wrapp account itself and following the instructions should be good enough.
Validity of Wrapp Gifts
A free Wrapp gift is valid for 30-90 days. The validity of paid gifts depends on the merchant though.
Remember that you can use a Wrapp gift only for a single purchase and the service is completely digital. You can only use Wrapp if you are from any of these countries only: The United States, The United Kingdom, Norway, The Netherlands, Germany, Australia, Sweden or Finland. Don’t worry though! Wrapp is soon expanding to other countries as well.
