Windows Has Detected a Hard Disk Problem
One day, I was playing game with my friend, but suddenly Windows prompted me a warning reporting “Windows detected a hard disk problem. Backup your files immediately to prevent information loss and then contact the computer manufacture to determine if you need to repair or replace the disk”. I ignored this warning and closed the window. However, after a few minutes, this warning still appeared in my Windows 10. Then I started to find the solutions on the internet to disable this hard disk problem. In this article, I will share the details about this error to you. Hope it can help you when you also get such an error.
When this error occurs, you should know there must have a problem on your hard drive. Your disk may get died sooner or later, and then all data on this disk will be lost. More seriously, system file will be damaged which probably leads to unbootable operating system. Why does “Windows detected a hard disk problem” error happen to you? Generally speaking, it is because of virus infection, system error, and mistaken operation and disk bad sectors. Next I will give you the solutions for this issue.
How to Fix
Way 1: Backup Data
In order to ensure data security, you had better follow the suggestion that Windows offers, that is to back up your important files at once. Here I recommend you to clone disk for the entire disk data. How to do this work? A professional program should be used. MiniTool Partition Wizard is such a partition and disk manager, which enables you to copy disk, copy partition or migrate OS to SSD/HD effectively. Before you do, download its Free Edition for a try.
Step 1: Select the disk you want to backup, and click “Copy Disk” feature.
Step 2: Then select a destination hard drive to store the copy. Please ensure there are no important data on the target disk, otherwise, data will be destroyed.
Step 3: Then choose one copy method according to your need. Click “Next” to continue.
Step 4: Then in the pop-up window, this tool will suggest you to set to boot from the destination disk in BIOS. For data backup, please ignore it.
Step 5: Click “Apply” button to take this change into effect.
Way 2: Test and Fix Bad Sectors
After finishing the data backup, you should take action to fix disk problem. Sometimes, the error is due to bad sector, so it is necessary to test your disk. Also MiniTool Partition Wizard can be used to perform this operation with its “Surface Test” feature. This tool will mark bad blocks in red and disk block without error in green.
If bad sectors are found, please try to shield these sectors with a professional tool. Here MiniTool Partition Wizard doesn’t have such a feature, so you need to search one online.
Way 3: Scan and Kill Virus
Perhaps viruses attack your computer and then Windows will tell you it has detected a hard disk problem. Please download anti-virus software to scan and kill virus.
Way 4: Run SFC to Fix System File
System File Checker is a tool which is useful to check system file error and repair it. Please run Command Prompt as administrator, and then input “sfc /scannow” command to start to quickly scan system files and fix damaged files.
If this command doesn’t work, please try “chkdsk (drive letter) /f ”.
Now after trying those ways, you probably have solved Windows hard disk problem. If you want to know more information, please refer to Quick Fix Windows Detected a Hard Disk Problem in Windows 10.
