Your Keyboards, Mice and Tablets Could Facilitate the Spread of the Coronavirus

If the stock market is any indication, Americans are starting to panic about the coronavirus. The CDC is saying it’s a matter of when, not if, the coronavirus shakes up our lives. How are you going to prepare? Planning on wearing a mask? Might want to look into it some more.

Those who wear masks may look like they are very prepared for the coronavirus epidemic but probably aren’t quite as prepared as they seem. Face masks can prevent people from breathing in particles as small as 0.3 microns, but coronavirus particles measure between 0.05 and 0.2 microns in diameter, according to a recent article in The Lancet. Clearly, there needs to be a better way to stay safe.

What you really want is to be careful not to touch a surface that has been contaminated by the coronavirus. This is obviously easier said than done. Human coronaviruses have been found to stay on surfaces such metal, glass or plastic surfaces for as long as nine days if that surface had not been disinfected, according to a study published earlier this month in The Journal of Hospital Infection

Fortunately, the same study found that the coronavirus “can be efficiently inactivated by surface disinfection procedures.” Using disinfecting wipes or one of many types of household cleaners can be an excellent way to prevent this sickness. This seems pretty easy and along with washing one’s hands can be a great way to prevent the spread of not only the coronavirus, but of many contagious sicknesses.

However, you have to account for frequently touched technology that you wouldn’t normally think of disinfecting. For example, when’s the last time you disinfected your iPad? Or your keyboard? Apple actually advises against using harsh cleaning products to disinfect your iPad due to the damage it causes on the device. Fortunately, Seal Shield has developed Seal Screen, a breakthrough in screen protection technology that comes with antimicrobial product protection as well as the ability to use harsh cleaning products on it to disinfect your devices. They are custom screen protectors that can be made to fit anything as small as an Apple Watch all the way up to a seventy-plus inch television.

Similarly, you should also look into getting medical-grade keyboards and computer mice especially if you have to share them with other people. The majority of people don’t properly wash their hands with soap and can disrupt your hand hygiene and expose you to the coronavirus, even if you are taking precautions for yourself. Seal Shield keyboards and mice can be wiped down with disinfecting wipes or even soaked in bleach if that is what you prefer. Having commonly used devices that can be disinfected can be a major game-changer in avoiding the coronavirus. Being vigilant of what you touch will undoubtedly go a long way.
