What Is RSS Feeds And How Do You Use It

We all have to start somewhere, and that somewhere is usually where you don’t know much about anything. RSS feeds are such a thing. If I’m having a chat with my father about the Internet and start mentioning RSS feeds, XML files and so on, I can be certain that his mind is already in a completely different place than where I want it to be. So, this article is actually for people like him – people who have not yet had a chance to get to know RSS feeds, what they mean, what they’re good for – and how to subscribe using RSS.

I’ve known for a long time what RSS feeds are and how to use them, I just never use them, to be honest. Today I see how stupid I was, you miss out on a lot of great content and updates if you are determined to manually go and visit websites as you remember to do it, rather than having their RSS feeds delivered directly to your Inbox or favorite RSS reader.

icloud – free operating system in The Cloud

One of the important buzz words of the year is still “cloud”. Meaning, to store your data in the cloud. Out there, up there, down there, wherever the servers might be located now a days. It’s also pretty clever, you get access to your data whenever, wherever, without having to use your own computer.

The ability to always have access to everything you need, pictures, movies, contacts, calender and so on, is the vision behind icloud, which provides you with a free operating system in the cloud. All you need is a web browser.

Vulnerability in Microsoft ActiveX Control Could Allow Remote Code Execution

Yesterday Microsoft announced that they are investigating a privately reported vulnerability in Microsoft Video ActiveX Control. If an attacker success in exploiting this vulnerability, he could gain the same rights as the local user. And now to the “sad” (and some what expected) part: When using Internet Explorer it could all happen without you knowing it, it’s done remote and does not require any user intervention.

Microsoft recommends that Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 customers remove support for this ActiveX Control within Internet Explorer. Though unaffected, they also recommend that Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 customers apply the same measures.

The Hottest Girls In Gaming

Sony Ericsson W715 – Review And Unboxing Video

Sony-Ericsson-W715-earplugsWalkman. Not that 30 year old Walkman from Sony, but the popular Walkman series from Sony Ericsson. The W715 is part of this Walkman series – this W715 is not a brand new model, so it’s currently in a good price range, making it a very attractive Walkman phone.

Let’s check it out. The package is quite small and simple. Contains the phone itself, Memorycard/USB adapter, Headset with multiple ear plugs, charger and some information/manuals and a CD with software.

Sony Ericsson W715 is a 3G phone that supports GSM 850, 900, 1800 and 1900 – so it’s a quad band phone. Besides that it also has Wi-Fi (and DLNA), EDGE, Bluetooth and the typical connections. It’s 95mm high, 47.5mm wide and 14.3mm thick and weighs in at 98 grams. The camera is almost not worth mentioning, a measly 3.2 megapixel without autofocus. What a shame. At least they could have included autofocus.

W715 comes with an 8GB M2 memory card – nice!

Quality wise, the W715 seems pretty well built. I remember my old W580 (Walkman edition of the S500), the slider wasn’t anything as good as this. The W715 front is metal and the back is some kind of plastic/rubber that feels very nice and doesn’t make the phone slippery.

Robot-hummingbird To Spy On Enemies?

It’s no surprise that DARPA in the USA invests money in some very interesting, and sometimes weird, projects. One of the recent ones are are Nano Air Vehicle, or NAV in short.

Nano Air Vehicle is being developed by AeroVironment and is basically a hummingbird. Well, it looks like one, that is. It has wings instead of rotating chopper blades.

The prototype shown in the video below is part of the project that’s been ongoing for 2 years. It shows how they remote control their bird, though it only has enough power to be airborne for about 20 seconds.

Why I’m getting an iPhone 3GS – No Matter What!

iPhone shelfDo you have it yet, the iPhone 3GS? No? Me neither 🙁 But it’s not because I don’t want it, it’s because I can’t!! My current iPhone 3G was purchased at Vodafone Malta last year for €515 (US$ 723) without a contract but still sim-locked to the Vodafone network. Recently I had it unlocked at Vodafone for €70 (US$ 98), down from the normal €200 (US$ 281), because they originally told me €70 but later increased the price to €200.

Had I bought it with a 2-year contract (only option), it would – after 2 years – have costed me between €1,255 (US$ 1,764) for the €40 (US$ 53) monthly plan and €2,400 (US$3,370) for the €100 (US$ 140) monthly plan. Not exactly cheap, but the monthly plans do come with minutes, texts and data, bear in mind.

Retain Visitors To Your Site And Increase Sales Conversions: Exit Grabber Review

Exit Grabber pop-up: Text-based example.
Exit Grabber pop-up: Text-based example.

You want better sales conversions or membership registrations on your website, am I right? Because, after all, that’s what puts food on the table. And beer in the fridge. After having this software recommended by a good friend and Internet marketing guru, I suggested to one of my clients that they gave it a try.

Months later, the results are in.

Allow me to cut to the chase, while Exit Grabber claims to be able to boost sales by 327%, my client “only” saw an increase in membership registration of around 26% per month, compared to a usually very steady membership registration flow. To be honest, that’s not a bad increase at all, considering the price of Exit Grabber is only around 80 bucks. And if they didn’t have this software on their site, the users would  just have left the website, never to return again. And never become a paying member.
